Promise for Every Youth

For over 100 years, Lake Junaluska has been a place of Koinonia--or, Christian fellowship--where countless young people have committed their lives to Christ and service in the United Methodist Church. This year, through IGC's work, we have served over 80 churches and 1,000 youth. Our vision is to prepare young people for Confirmation Sunday when they will decide to profess faith in Christ and make the promise to become meaningful members of the United Methodist Church.

Throughout the Southeast Jurisdiction, there are many underserved and economically challenged congregations working faithfully with their young people to raise up followers of Christ in the United Methodist tradition. Often, young people in these congregations do not get to experience the sense of Christian community that is present at Confirmation Retreat weekends as well as beautiful Lake Junaluska and its rich heritage of shaping faith.

Our goal for 2019 is to make available to District Superintendents across the SEJ, who serve and know their congregations, scholarship opportunities for 200 youth in underserved congregations so that they, too, may experience the connectional nature of our church and the richness of Lake Junaluska's legacy at a Confirmation Retreat.

The cost to participate in an IGC Confirmation Retreat at Lake Junaluska is $200. This cost includes lodging, meals, and program expenses. Our goal is to raise two hundred $200 scholarships for a total of $40,000. This is a faithful expression of our United Methodist tradition of justice and inclusion, in which it is our duty to offer Christ to all regardless of racial, ethnic, or socioeconomic background. It also allows individual donors, congregations, and faith-based foundations a fantastic opportunity to make an eternal difference in some of our most vulnerable populations. Moreover, Lake Junaluska benefits as a broader audience get to experience the richness of this place.

Your contribution of $200 will fund a scholarship for one youth to attend a Confirmation Retreat at Lake Junaluska in 2019 and allow them to participate in a faith-shaping and life-changing experience. You may also sponsor a group of five students for $1,000. Partial scholarships are welcome.

Thank you for your donation. Your generosity will allow a young person to experience the holiness of Lake Junaluska, the Christian community that happens at Confirmation Retreats, and be prepared to make a profession of faith on Confirmation Sunday.
